Fate and the Oedipus Trilogy > Introduction

Throughout time people have often questioned the reality of their destiny; whether it was open to their free will or somehow influenced and dominated by fate. A belief in fate can be defined as a belief that the future, and the events leading up to it, are somehow predetermined or influenced towards a certain path by some kind of divine intervention.

The role that fate plays in the Oedipal Trilogy is clearly visible; the actions of Oedipus, Antigone, Teiresias, and others are all linked to a prophecy given years before their time, which displays for them some sort of definite, yet unidentifiable, fate to come.
