Fate and The Oedipus Theory > Conclusion

© Chris Pass Jan. 2006
There are often very many interpretations of fate, what it holds for the individual, and what things we are able to do in an attempt to intervene. The fate aspect in the Oedipal Trilogy, however, is definite.

No matter how hard Oedipus tries to avoid his fate, he consequently runs head-first into it, meeting with his destiny at a crossroad. Oedipus’s fate in turn influences the lives and destiny’s of others as well. With Oedipus’s death, Theseus is ensured a prosperous kingdom, and Creon a failed aspiration. Oedipus, in his attempt to conquer fate, becomes the victim of it.
