| Try to work exercise into your daily routine. Adding 30 minutes of exercise into your day will assist you in keeping your weight under control (Teens Health). It doesn’t matter what kind of exercise; the gym is not absolutely necessary, just get your heart rate up and blood flowing. If you are like me, and do not enjoy exercising when it feels like work, make it interesting by playing something fun –maybe Ultimate-Frisbee in the Quad or on an intramural sports team like softball or flag football (these are also good ways to meet people). If sports are not your thing, instead of taking the Tiger Transit, walk or take your bike to campus –your feet are probably more reliable to get you there on time anyway. If you have a choice between taking the elevator and taking the stairs, take the stairs. Burning a few calories here and there add up! A study at Cornell University found that it only takes consuming an extra 174 calories a day to gain the 4 pounds we are trying to prevent (Teens Health). Before the extra calories turn into trouble, burn them off! A rule of thumb for maintaining your body weight is only take in as many calories as you are burning; on average, a person burns about 2,000 calories a day. | |
